REWARDSTargeted, Multisensory Math Intervention

Grades 5–10

What is TransMath?

TransMath® is a comprehensive math intervention curriculum that targets middle and high school students who lack the foundational skills necessary for entry into algebra or who are two or more years below grade level in math. Using a dual-topic approach to emphasize fewer topics in greater depth, students are able to build number concept knowledge and problem-solving skills within one lesson. Students who struggle with math gain concept mastery and confidence with TransMath.

TransMath benefits students in grades 5–10 who require immediate support in building the foundational math skills. Predictable, structured lessons provide foundational and grade-level instruction. TransMath also supports teachers with strategies, such as differentiation, visual models, and distributed practice to help meet the diverse needs of students.

Three levels and entry points that build incremental success:

  • Level 1: Develop Number Sense for students who need foundational number sense skills
  • Level 2: Make Sense of Rational Numbers for students who lack knowledge of rational numbers
  • Level 3: Expressions, Equations, and Functions for students who need skills for pre-algebra

Evidence-based, effective intervention for students when they need it

TransMath has proven, effective elements that accelerate students toward grade-level mathematics through strong teacher support with lesson-by-lesson models.

The instructional principles that form the foundation of TransMath pedagogy are supported by research and include:

  • Concrete and Visual Representations
  • Distributed Practice
  • Varied Opportunities for Communication
  • Multiple Forms of Assessment

Motivation for Any Student

Complementary to TransMath, VmathLive® benefits all students in grades K–8. With a rich, interactive online environment, students are motivated and engaged as they move through games and activities. Students are enjoying themselves so much they don't even notice they are mastering a year's worth of math.

VmathLive features four main components: Teacher Dashboard, Learn, Play, and Master.

  • Class performance can be quickly viewed by teachers to gauge student performance and comprehension
  • Students stay on track with messaging, badges, trophies, and points
  • Visual representations of math concepts in English and Spanish help students understand connections
  • Scaffolded help provides problem-specific, step-by-step hints, and onscreen tutoring
  • Engages students with 20 different games of math fact fluency and mental math skills
  • Students master an activity by completing correct answers in a row and master modules to advance to the next level

Intervention That Transitions Learning to Algebra Readiness

TransMath improves math skills by breaking down concepts while accelerating students to more advanced math, from number sense to rational numbers, to understanding algebra. Lessons are presented in smaller parts, increasing student engagement, and addressing gaps in math to build confident learners.

  • Stronger transition to higher levels of math by introducing and practicing concepts earlier
  • TeacherTalk Tutorials reinforce lesson concepts using narrated, animated visual models
  • Graphic novellas motivate students to learn word problems
  • Ongoing assessments with check for understanding, quizzes, and end-of-unit assessments
