The LANGUAGE! Live Text Training component offers the small-group, teacher-led instruction that struggling students need. In the Student Editions, students will read a variety of informational and literary texts across several genres. In the Teacher Guide, teachers teach students to build content knowledge, make meaning of text through close reading, master language development, and connect reading to writing.

Please choose one of the four books (teacher and student edition) provided in your print sample bookshelf. One unit in each book has been tabbed and annotated to guide you through your review. Once you have selected one of the books to review, read a quick summary about what type of student would be at this level and click on the Unit Opener video for background information.

Level 1, Units 1–6

These students are developing their reading skills. While students at this level may have some skills to read independently, they lack the early literacy skills to decode words successfully, making reading frustrating and meaningless.

Level 1, Units 7–12

These students are still developing their reading skills yet becoming more confident in their use of vocabulary and grammar strategies to build meaning. Students continue to need scaffolded support, but they can participate in instruction beyond their independent reading level.

Level 2, Units 1–6

These students can read somewhat independently and are beginning to think critically. While reading with prosody and automaticity may still be developing, students at this level begin to interact with text with interest and enjoyment.

Level 2, Units 7–12

These students can read independently and think critically. While they continue to practice literacy skills, strong comprehension instruction is the greatest need. Students at this level are reading to learn, engaged in the topics of the units, and questioning as they read.
