REWARDS Plus: Science and Social Studies
REWARDS Plus is designed for struggling readers in middle and high school. The research-based strategies from REWARDS Intermediate and REWARDS Secondary are expanded to cement skills and increase transfer to reading informational text. REWARDS Plus :

- Provides extra practice and builds students’ stamina and automaticity in content-area classes
- Helps students learn to interpret and read advanced infographics, maps, and timelines

Builds student reading savvy in complex content areas
REWARDS Plus builds on the support offered to upper-grade readers by expanding on their newfound literacy decoding skills within a particular content area. A student who has previously encountered REWARDS (Intermediate or Secondary) now has increased fluency and familiarity with the process of deciphering known elements in unknown multisyllabic vocabulary. REWARDS Plus expands on that skill set by applying it to intriguing, authentic, content-specific text, and infographics.

REWARDS and the Science of Reading
The language comprehension factor in overall reading achievement becomes more and more important from fourth grade onward. At this age, reading and language arts instruction must include deliberate, systematic, and explicit teaching of word recognition as well as develop students’ subject-matter knowledge, vocabulary, sentence comprehension, and familiarity with language in written texts. The body of research called the science of reading has much to offer these older students who lack foundational reading skills.
Training and Support Services
We are committed to a long-term partnership with every district that implements our solutions. Each implementation support plan is individually crafted with school and/or district administrators to meet specific needs, including making explicit connections to state standards and/or the CCSS. Districts can choose from a menu of training and support options including in-person, online, or a combination of both.
